Default NTFS corruption in pagefile.sys

Question: I'm getting the messages about not having a page and that it is creating a temporary one. I only get this message if I set the pagefile as usual under my computer->advanced->performance->etc. If I turn the page file off I get no message. No matter what I do pagefile.sys is not created. (yes I'm viewing hidden files and not hiding system files). If I go to recovery console to try to delete it pagefile.sys still doesn't exist. If I try to copy boot.ini to pagefile.sys I get Access is denied (also if i try to create a file named pagefile.sys in the root of c:\ inside XP it says the file already exists). So it seems that the file is there in some fashion however I can't see it no matter what I try to do. I've run chkdsk many times, so my question is does anyone have some trick or utility to help find and delete pagefile.sys when it is in limbo?
