Default My wireless laptop connection seems stuck on Acquiring Network Address.

I have just purchased a Compaq Presario C310EA from PC World, and it is wireless enabled so I thought it would be just a matter of switching on my laptop and it would 'find' my Orange/wannadoo Livebox that my desktop computer is connected to, it does find the livebox and connects, however When I drag my mouse over the bottom right wireless icon, it says, "Signal Strength: Excellent; Status: Acquiring Network Address, and it will not connect to the internet? it just always says Acquiring Network Address, I am a novice and wondered what do I have to do to enable it to connect?
My daughter gets a connection on her laptop using a wirless adapter, but my laptop is wireless enabled built in. Please can you advise me?
