Default Turn off install updates on shutdown

Question: When Windows Updates are downloaded and not installed, is there a way to turn off the windows default to Install Updates on Shutdown? I have users that generally are in a hurry to leave and if they don't change it to SHUT DOWN, the install always seems to hang up or error messages pop up and that's were there computer is when they come in the next day.

I try to get them to install during the day, but they get tired of getting the RESTART YOUR COMPUTER pop up.

So if someone could let me know how to do either or both, I will try them out. Or how to use the automatic download and install without the the RESTART YOUR COMPUTER pop up, that would be the best solution.

We are all running Windows XP Professional, SP2. Some have desktops and some have laptops, but they are all Dell computers.
