Question: I have a peer to peer network consisting of 1 Win 2000 server (data server), 1 Win server 2003 and approx. 25 Win XP workstations. Approx. 10 are in the WorkGroup workgroup. The problem is, the workgroup seems to come and go as far as visibility. If I shut/power down everything, and I mean everything, switches, hubs, etc. and bring everything back up I can see the workgroup but only temporarily. Eventually, it becomes inaccessible. I have a linksys router, but the problem occurred before it came into play a year ago. I do get master browser errors in the Win 2000 server event viewer log. At this point do not have a domain and cannot use active directory due to an oracle database that might not survive installation of active directory.
Does anyone out there have any ideas as to how I can keep my workgroup visible. Its just not feesible to shutdown and restart everything just so I can see the workgroup to map a drive to folders on the server and I need to do this quite often.
