I have a Compaq Presario 6000. I have forgotten the password for the Power on Password. I took the following steps to reset the password, however none of them has worked. I'm sure the password is stored somewhere in the registry since I disconnected the hard drive and restarted the computer. It still asked me for a power on password.
1. Took out the the small battery connected to the motherboard and put it in after 24 hours.
2. Pushed the reset button near the battery while the computer was off.
3. Held the reset button near the battery while the computer was off.
4. Pushed the reset button near the battery while the computer was on.
5. Held the reset button near the battery while the computer was on.
6. Unplugged the computer and removed the batter for 24 hours.
7. Pushed F10 as soon as the computer started.
8. Held both of the mouse buttons when the computer started.
9. Used "Compaq" and "compaq" as the possible passwords.
There were jumpers right near where the battery was placed.
1. Pushed the jumper pin in slot 1 and 2. Then restarted the computer.
2. Pushed the jumper pin in slot 2 and 3. Then restarted the computer.
I've googled extensively trying to find the right solution.
