I would like to switch to Windows Vista from XP SP2, but I don't understand what a full version is vs. an upgrade.

I know what a full version is (an install from scratch), but do I need to in stall XP in order to do an upgrade?

These MS upgrades (WIn 98 -> XP) are always a disaster. I'm not about to do that.

Or can I simply provide my old XP CD upon request to verify that I'm an owner.
