Default Mapped drive between Vista and Xp home doesn't re-connect unless click on my computer

I recently setup a small peer to peer network with the "server" box being a Vista home edition and the "client" an XP home SP2. I shared a folder on the Vista machine and gave it full access to the client. I can access the data from the XP machine with no problem. If the XP machine re-boots you have to click on My computer and access the mapped drive in order to "wake up" the connection. If you reboot the XP machine and pull up a command prompt window and try change from c: to q: it says the drive is not available. Any ideas? I even tried pinging the Vista machine prior to accessing the drive and that didn't seem to matter even though I did get returns on the ping? This problem is kind of a pain because the client wants to use Quickbooks to access a data file on the Vista machine, but when you first open Quickbooks it doesn't see the company file and goes to the default file selection screen at which time you cant access the file unless you go back to "my computer" and double click on the mapped drive?
