Vista will not do a 'repair install', but it will scan your current install for problems and correct them if needed. This is accessible from the DVD.
Otherwise, you can do a clean install from the DVD, which will wipe your settings, but not your data. Applications will need to be installed again, however, and a backup before would be recommended
