So, Friday night I shut down my dell laptop, brushed my teeth and went to bed. After several minutes, I realized that my laptop was still running. I tried to see if maybe it was updating but there was just black screen. I shut it down using the power button as I was concerned maybe something snuck in. I went to bed and figured I would deal with it Saturday. Saturday, when I booted up I got a ton of weird occurrunces: 1. Error message: Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's services to stop. To start this service, restart your computer or search Help and Support for how to start a service manually. 2. A DOS window opened and the path at the top was for Trillian program 3. A DOS window opened and the path at the top was for Google toolbar for IE 4. An error message that the iTunes helper had stopped working and windows was searching for a solution. Also the following programs are disabled, as in when I try to open nothing happens: Trillian, iTunes, MS Money Plus, Adobe Reader 8 Initially, IE would open but not connect to a site and kept freezing Firefox will open, but it's very weird. When I click in the address bar the cursor appears to hang above the address bar. When I type, you can't see the text. I tested with yahoo and hit enter. It went to the site, but I can actually see a mix of source code and normal yahoo. Also, my laptop is noticably slower. So, I uninstalled recent installs, Webex, the google toolbar, xvid, and a program I didn't recognize I think it was called power disk. Since then I've installed and run AVG, Kaspersky and hitman pro. Hitman Pro and Kaspersky found and isolated several things, and I restarted, still not back to normal. I've run hijack this, nothing looks out of the ordinary. My room mate suggested that maybe I killed an update, but the most recent update in Programs and Features was 11/15/2007. I know that Defender received a definition update on Friday night, but I can't seem to find out how to uninstall the most recent update Any suggestions? Thanks for your help! Rene |
