On-Screen Keyboard Offered by Google
As I said yesterday, both India and Google celebrated India's Independence Day on August 15 but it seems like the national day continues with some special gifts coming straight from the Mountain View headquarters. The Indian side of Google Labs, Google's technologyplayground as the folks from the Googleplex like to name it, rolled out two new utilities available for the local community. "Google labs for India showcases a few of our favorite ideas that aren't quite ready for prime time. Your feedback can help us improve them. Please play with these prototypes and send your comments directly to the Googlers who developed them," the company encourages the users to join the testing sessions and send feedback to the giant.
As Haochi from Googlified, you're now able to use Indic On-Screen Keyboard iGoogle Gadgets and Google Indic Transliteration straight from your iGoogle page. Obviously, those are two iGoogle gadgets compatible with the Personalized Homepage that allow you to use the search giant's solutions from a single website.
Basically, the On-Screen Keyboard is actually a simple way to enter search queries in several Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Nepali and Telugu. At this time, the gadget is quite buggy and Google admits it on the official page of the utility: "oriya font rendering seems to be broken under IE. Firefox does not seem to support Oriya at all. Bengali (and Assamese) fonts are often too tiny and seem to be placed a few pixels lower than required. Many browsers do not render some of the Malayalam chillus and conjuncts correctly. Note that there are two virama forms for Malayalam."
Also, the gadgets are not working on Apple's Safari so, if you're an Indian user who wants to install the utilities, you should check for another browser if Apple's browser is installed on your computer.
