Unfortunately IE 7 before or after the registry edits had a GIANT problem. No popups resulting from a LEFT mouse click will appear. Examples are the Address book in Yahoo mail, the video selection page (THE FAN) at comcast.net BUT ALSO Click on Favorites at the top of the IE 7 window and you get a beep; otherwise nothing else happens (no favorites pop-up appears) OR click on Toosl/ Enable-Disable Add-ons and nothing happens (i.e no add-on menu appears). Just that the thin blue border on the outside of the IE 7 Window briefly turns light blue and then back to dark blue. So I think it is time to uninstall/reinstall IE 7 as it appears to be corrupted. Here is where it gets WEIRD !! MS says to click Show Updates in the Add/Remove Programs list and then hilite Internet Explorer 7 and then click Remove to get back to IE 6. There is only one problem; that line is not there to hilite !!! Why is that ?; because my customer before I arrived thought he could get rid of IE 7 by System Restoring to the day before IE 7 was installed (which happens to be only 6 days ago)., Well the System Restore worked WHICH IS WHY IE 7 DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE ADD/REMOVE LIST WITH SHOW UPDATE CHECKED as IE 7 was not installed 6 days ago. Unfortunately IE 7 is still there as the browser but because it is not in the Add/Remove List we have no way of uninstalling and getting back to IE 6 so we can then resinstall IE 7. Looks bad. Does any IE 7 EE Expert know of a Forced Removal Tool for IE 7 that also (and this is an absolute requirement) ALSO reinstalls IE 6?? Because if it does not reinstall IE 6 then how are we going to go to MS Update and download IE 7 again??? OR Have you heard that on some PCs, IE 7 pop-ups of all kinds are blocked (including pop-up menus from clicking Favorites or other options at the top of the IE Window.) IF so what is the solution to get pop-ups to work? THAT solution would make it unnecessary to uninstall/reinstall IE 7. BTW, I shut off the Google Toolbar Pop-up blocker (althout it would not block the Favorites popup in any case). The Yahoo toolbard did not have a popup blocker (it had a button to "Upgrade" to the latest popup blocker). Also could going to the Add/remove Programs List and then clicking Add/Remove Windows Components in the left margin and then unchecking the IE box in the menu be useful here ?? BTW, when attaching files to Yahoo email, I once saw the blue bar at the top saying a popup was blocked but when I clicked it , that showed the IE 7 pop-up blocker was off !!! Impossible but true. |

http://support.microsoft.com/default.asp HOW TO: Restore the Operating System to a Previous State in Windows XP You may inadvertently restore Windows XP to a previous configuration that you do not want. To undo the restoration: Log on to Windows as Administrator. Click Start , point to All Programs , point to Accessories , point to System Tools , and then click System Restore . System Restore starts. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Undo my last restoration , and then click Next . A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK . On the Confirm Restoration Undo page, click Next . System Restore restores the original Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer. Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Undo Complete page appears. |
