As young said, empty the temporary internet files. Then my basic cleanup steps for spyware/virus possibilities are: My usual routine for a system that is infected with viruses and/or spyware. Go into Add/Remove programs, and remove all unwanted entries, and toolbars Go into MSConfig> startup tab, remove all unwanted and suspicious entries Download Adaware SE and the latest updates from: Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft Download Spybot S&D and the latest updates from: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl Download Hijackthis from: HijackThis Logfileauswertung Download ccleaner from: CCleaner.com After all of these are downloaded, turn off restore feature. Reboot into safe mode. Install Adaware, and update manually. Run it and remove all found entries. Install Spybot, and update manually. Run it and do the same. Run Hijackthis and if you are familiar with the entries, remove any unwanted entries. If not save the log file for later evaluation. Install CCleaner and run that. Reboot system into regular windows, Run Hijack this again. There are things it won't pick up in safe mode. if you need hijackthis evaluation, return to HijackThis Logfileauswertung and use their site for log evaluation. Now log onto http://security.symantec.com run a virus scan and follow the directions for removing any other remaining bugs. You can use their site search for info on how to get rid of any nasties you are unfamilar with. If you run into anything you can't get rid of or need help with any of these, just post here. |
