Suddenly, with no further software changes I am aware of, IE7 runs for a random, but short time and then hangs. I get a message that it has encountered an error and must close. I also get a message that Dr. Watson also must close. Once it knocked my Sygate firewall off line. I am used to 'normal' hanging. I get those every other day or so. But, these are continual, until I get too frustrated to even be on the net. The hangs come when I close a tab, generally. I tried to 'solve' this by leaving tabs open and opening a new window. I thought that if my trouble was caused by closing tabs, I could keep going by just closing the whole window and opening a new one. When the hang comes, the window starts the closure process, I get the message to send the report to Microsoft, I cancel the message, and then the window hangs in limbo for several minutes. I am effectively off the net for the hang time. I try using Task Manager to actually knock the window off, and that works - - - sometimes. I have had to reboot to get out of this problem. I am running: WinXP Sp1 and 2, with live update on. So, my OS is 'up to date'. Norton AV 2007 With liveupdate on. Sygate firewall Norton SystemWorks 2005 (subscription expired, but it still has done what I want it to) OE6. These are the only net enabled programs I run. I suppose there are more, but, ask and I will check. I looked at the details of the report Microsoft report wanted to be, and it doesn't make any sense to me. I also don't know how to copy it, since I can't seem to select the text. I went on Google, and found that Yahoo Messenger can cause this. So, I uninstalled it. It also said that MSN Messenger could do that, but I don't have any other messengers installed. So, what am I missing? Is this the result of a Microsoft update? Is this the result of a Norton update? What can I do? |
