Default Tray Apps is trying to install

Tray Apps is trying to install Question: I need to stop this installation, it looks for a CD. I never did anything to bring this up. I have XP PRO on a DELL PC.

I get the following messages:
"Preparing to install"
"Ask for CD"
"Error 1706 No valid source for Tray Apps."

then I have to hit cancel about 20 times, as it keeps starting over, but does stop after about 20 clicks or so.

Anyone know how to stop this?

Both NVMCTRAY and mm_tray.exe are non-essential processes. It is not clear whether they are causing your problem or not, but you can disable them both and then reboot to check.

You can later enable them one by one to see what causes that message.

To get a more complete picture of what starts up when you restart your system, try the following:

(1) Download Autoruns from: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

(2) Run the program. It lists a bunch of things that start when Windows starts.

(3) From the menu bar, select Options, and uncheck "Include Empty Locations" and "check" "Hide Microsoft Entries"

(4) This will give you a shorter, more meaningful list.

(5) Examine that list and disable anything suspicious by un-checking it. Then reboot and see if it helped.

(6) If not, if not sure, you can use the File -> Save as.. option in Autoruns to save the list to a text file and then cut and paste it here so we can advise further.
