monitor display strectched vertically

m not exactly sure how to explain that, but here goes my best attempt:

I had a system crash and had to replace my harddrive and reload my OS and apps. I've got a dual monitor display and one of my monitors:
Compaq 2900 is strectching the text, images, everything on screen slightly. It looks as if everything on the display is elongated vertically. My other monitor is displaying fine. This wasn't happening previously.

Has anyone experieced anything similiar? I'm trying to determine if my monitor is going bad or if it is just a setting that needs to be adjusted? I've been toying with the monitor display settings and haven't been able to correct it.

Adjust the refresh rate as much as the monitor permits is case they are CRT, or usually at 60 Hz for a TFT, press monitor "auto focus" and then set its size.
