Removing a failed DC from AD from a site that no longer exists.

Question: I just took over as a network admin over an existing Windows 2003 AD network. I am in process of an AD cleanup. When I look at AD Users and Computers there are several old domain controllers that were retired without running DC Promo. I can not delete them using AD Users and Computers because AD says that they still contain objects. When I run ntdsutil.exe they do not show up when listing servers in our only site. After questioning the old admin (after a promise of free lunch) - I am told that they were DC's in a site that no longer exists. My question is how do I remove these DC's from AD now that the site has been removed?

Oh and make sure you do List Sites in Metadata Cleanup in NTDSUtil to ensure the dead site really is gone.
