Question: Does anyone know when Microsoft is going to add these DST updates to the Microsoft Automatic Updates system? I read in one of the MS articles (can't recall which one now) that they were going to eventually make these DST updates available there. Thanks.

I don't know where you got that order from, but if you had followed the wizard that I previously recommended to you in http:Q_22389820.html, Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center

then the page that would result from following the wizard would have started off with:

General order of updating for DST changes:
* Apply and verify updates to server operating systems (KBs 931836 and 914387)
* If you are running Outlook Web Access, Exchange Lotus Notes connecter, or BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange , install the Exchange Patch CDO.DLL (KB 926666)
* Update your Windows client operating systems if they already have not been updated using Windows Update or Windows Server Update Services (KBs 931836 and 914387)
* Correct individual e-mail application calendars using the Outlook Time Zone Update Tool (KB 931667)

(notice it says, "General" not "Critical")

I would still recommend that you use that tool.

The Outlook tool should be run after the patches but the tool doesn't run automatically, only the installation of the tool happens automatically. What the tool does is shift all of the appointments that are between March 11 - April 1. The reason they say to do it immediately is to avoid having users create appointments during this period with the patch applied... because then those would be at the RIGHT time, and would be modified into the WRONG time by the tool.

This has been a confusing issue, and as I noted to you previously it is probably going to cause more problems than the Y2K bug. But just relax a bit with it, and tell your clients to do the same... Microsoft is doing their best to keep up with various questions and concerns which is demonstrated by the amount of times the KB931667 article has been rewritten:

Version Date Change
1.0 19-Jan-2007 Original version
1.1 21-Jan-2007 Corrected broken link
1.2 22-Jan-2007 MSINTERNAL section updates
2.0 28-Jan-2007 Complete article rewrite
3.0 02-Feb-2007 Complete article rewrite
4.0 05-Feb-2007 Complete article rewrite
5.0 09-Feb-2007 Complete article rewrite
5.1 13-Feb-2007 Corrected name of download from Tzremove to TZMove
6.0 14-Feb-2007 Article rewrite
7.0 19-Feb-2007 Added information to "Known issues and limitations" section
8.0 21-Feb-2007 Added cross-reference to 931836
8.1 24-Feb-2007 Added table to indicate article revisions

There have also been some amusing posts by IT Pros about what they plan to do about DST:
