But during its initial setup, I'm runing into questions that I'm not sure how to answer. I've been trying to follow, step by step, the highly recommended book "SBS 2003 Best Practices", but of course that book does not anticipate these questions from the IBM setup CD. First, the IBM setup asks me if I want the server to join a workgroup or domain, so I'm choosing domain. Next, it wants the domain name. What do I put here? Once I get to the MS setup, I know it will ask me for a "Full DNS name for internal domain", and a "NetBIOS domain name". Will I use the same thing here as I will use in one of those fields? Which one? Next, the IBM setup wants to know if I want to "automatically create an account for this server in the domain". Do I want to do so at this point? And then, if I do, it asks me what User Name and Password I plan to use for the administrator. I'm hoping an expert who has done this install repeatedly can guide me so I do it right....TIA |

> or domain, so I'm choosing domain. Choose Workgroup. DCPROMO is what changes it into a domain and that's handled by SBS Setup after the initial install completes. > Next, it wants the domain name. What do I put here? Once I get to > the MS setup, I know it will ask me for a "Full DNS name for internal > domain", and a "NetBIOS domain name". Will I use the same thing here > as I will use in one of those fields? Which one? Because your choosing a workgroup, put anything - it won't matter when DCPROMO runs. > Next, the IBM setup wants to know if I want to "automatically create > an account for this server in the domain". Do I want to do so at this point? Again, the domain is handled by SBS setup, if you select workgroup, I don't believe this question will be available or applicable. > And then, if I do, it asks me what User Name and Password I plan to > use for the administrator. Again, the domain is handled by SBS setup, if you select workgroup, I don't believe this question will be available or applicable. |
