Hi,
I realise these things might have been asked before but I am finding the whole RAM issue a little bit confusing. Basically I ran Crucial's memory scanner which told me that my computer was compatible with:
DDR PC2700 with a max of 1GB per slot
The compatible upgrades shown are all DDR PC2700. CL=2.5, 2.5 V
I am currently living in Russia and have bought an extra 1GB of ram (Which I can always use at home later if it wont work on my laptop now) but I wanted to check before installing this and messing up my computer! It says it is CL3 and 2.6V and PC3200, are these major issues or can I use it and it will 'clock down' to my motherboards speed? What does CL even mean and also, while we're at it what is DIMM and why do some of the modules say DIMM and others not? Also are there different amount of pins? Why?!
Also the q and a on crucial says that they dont need to be matching pairs, which I thought they did? I have just bought 1GB and have already got a 256 in there, could I add the 1GB in one slot and have the 256 in another? It tells me my computer doesnt support dual channel memory.
The main question is, if I put this in my computer, will it cause problems? The other questions are out of curiosity for next time!
Thanks in advance,
Chris
