Just bought this nice laptop, but was running XP media center from the box, I need XP pro to work, but I can't enable sound and modem, although the HP website says the drivers support XP Home and Pro. One thing to mention is that they say: "SoftPaq Number SP32646, "Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio," (or later) must be installed on the notebook before installing this SoftPaq." But I can't find this softpaq anywhere (I hope that's all we need). see it here: Conexant High Definition Audio (for AMD)* thanks in advance. |

* Insert Windows XP CD. * Start/Run and type (without quotes) "X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons" (where X is the letter of your CD drive). * Click 'Yes' on the prompt that appears. * Skip the updating process by clicking 'Cancel'. * After installation, click 'Ok'. * Restart the PC. * At the boot menu, select 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console'. (If you don't get the boot menu, reboot again and hit F8 a few times before the XP boot logo appears.) * Select the installation to log onto (default: 1) and press 'Enter', and give it your administrator password if it asks. * Type (without quotes) "cd system32\config" and hit return. * Type (without quotes) "copy SYSTEM C:\" and hit return. * Type (without quotes) "exit" and hit return. * At boot menu, select 'Windows XP Media Center Edition'. * Start/Run and type 'regedit' (without quotes). * Click on 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'. * Select File/Load Hive... * Browse and select 'C:\SYSTEM'. * Specify key name 'BANANA' and click OK. (I'm sure there's a very good reason it's called 'BANANA'.) * Expand 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\BANANA\WPA\MedCtrUpg'. * On the right-hand side, double-click 'IsLegacyMCE' value. * Change selected value to 1 and click 'Ok'. (That's a ONE, not a lower-case L). * Click on 'BANANA' subkey in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE'. * Select File/Unload Hive and click 'Ok'. * Restart the PC * At the boot menu, select 'Microsoft Windows Recovery Console'. * Select the installation to log onto (default: 1) and press 'Enter', again giving it the admin password if it asks. * Type 'cd \' (without quotes) and hit Enter. * Type 'copy SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM' (without quotes) and hit Enter. When it asks if you want to over-write the files, answer in the affirmative. * Type 'del SYSTEM' (without quotes) and hit Enter. * Type 'exit' (without quotes) and hit Enter. * At boot menu, select 'Windows XP Media Center Edition'. * Join domain. |
