I heard of some issues with users noticing their pc's locking up last week, my pc was also slow. This is what I found on my PC this morning. The symptoms don't match exactly to the Symantec site - but are similar. rtvscan.exe running at 99% of cpu. The link below talks about Norton Anti Virus being upgraded to 8.0. Even though my anti virus software is still 7.60 - the fix worked for me. Upgrading Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.61 client to Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.0 causes Rtvscan.exe to run continuously at 99 percent CPU utilization All I had to do was rename the file in C:\temp\Clt-Inst\DATA\MSINOTES\nlnvp.dll and reboot the PC. Maybe there is a better match to the problem but this works in the short term. My live update happened on friday - the problems started then. Any idea? same way as with Microsoft’s infamous "FastFind". You should configure it to not scan all files all the time, and have no other disk manager running, such as defrag, and some screensavers should be disabled. But I recall something about a bug for temp files. So: do not scan all the HD, in particular the SAV or NAV directories for their temporary storage, that'll lock as you describe. I don't think it is a version upgrade issue yet (eg, not fixed) Last edited by Sangeetha; 24-Feb-2007 at 12:38 AM. |
