cannot mount my DVD drive in fedora core 5. I looked and it is not listed in the fstab file, and it is not located in the /mount or the /mnt. Any sugestions? I am not running a GUI, just the console. is there anything that I should have done in the install to add? Soln There was one issue I found with mounting CD media and it appears to stem from their new volume label usage in fstab. Basically, what happens is it generates mount points on the fly depending on the volume label of the media being mounted. http: ---------------------------------------- Honestly I've got exact same issue with Fedora Core 5 on my dual PentiumIII 933 MHz PC. I haven't botherred yet to get familiar with RedHat/Fedora new disk management known as Logical Volume Management - LVM. I can play DVD movies ( using Xine) and read DVD data disks but I have no clue where and how DVD media is mounted while in KDE. It's true that media is mounted on fly and Xine player identifies DVD drive as /dev/dvd but when running command cat /etc/mtab ( that reads curently mounted devices) DVD is NOT listed. So, yes, it might be a glitch but I never had enough time to research the problem. I know , though that KDE-base 3.5.4 in not compiled to utilize HAL and DBUS . Proof for that is that you cannot start haldaemon through chkconfig nor by typing /sbin/service haldaemon start - it simply fails. ======================================== Anyway , If you want to give it a try , here's the line from my fstab file that work on my system just fine ( assuming your DVD is detected as /dev/hdc): /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,noauto 0 0 Open your default text editor and insert or type this line at the end of fstab file. Make sure to backup your original fstab file before making any changes to it by tying : cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab-burstadmin In case you want to reverse changes type : cp /etc/fstab-burstadmin fstab However, remember to login as root and mount DVD drive before reading it. Sure you have to create cdrom folder first in /mnt folder. If you want to avoid confusion you can create |
