Question
Ive freshly installed ubuntu linux on a vmware worktation machin and am having a couple ofr problems....the first was the screen res was messed and I believe it was because vmware does not support 24 bit color....I edited the conf file and removed the 24bit section.....Now the problem is that I cannot get to boot normally...I went to menu and tried the linux startup and/or default startup and I get to the login prompt...Another problem is the syncronising to ntp.ubuntulinux.org fails....I ran apt-get simple ntp which the system seemed to have updated.....I am simply back at the login and can't seem to startup normally.....Do I have to impose command to boot normally? If I boot default mode it shows the logo but then goes to the command line login...........
In the meantime i will double check the conf file to see if Im missing something.....

Check /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any hints on why X failed to start.
After making changes to /etc/X11/xorg.conf, run "invoke-rc.d gdm restart" to restart X.
