I have a Windows XP Pro machine. This machine is used for Microsoft Development. Just yesterday the user expierenced a problem when opening documents in Word, Excel, Notepad, etc, etc... The weird thing is that if you open Microsoft Word, it opens right up. It only happens to documents with data. All the files are local, not on a network.

If I open Word and then click File>Open, it does not delay. Docs with data open right up. It only happens when opening the document directly; from its stored directory. If I right click on the document, I get the same delay.

I have cleared all tmp files. I have disabled Norton completely. I have removed 'suspect' application(s). I know the user had not updated the system because it is controlled by me - internet restrictions and GPO's. I have defraged the drive and even ran system restore. I have also cleared the perftech directory.

Another note, during the delay both the memory and CPU's are almost idle - at normal levels.
