Default Office 2003 Startup Paths

Question:
I need to get the startup paths for Word, Excel and PowerPoint in Office 2003. I think these used to be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx\Wor d[Excel][PowerPoint]\Options. But under 2003, I can't find any startup information under Options. Has something changed, or is my Office not installed correctly?

If you are trying to find a "lost" file that you know was saved, was it originally an e-mail attachment? If so, be aware that Outlook has its own hiding place for files that is distinct from those used by the other Office applications. The easiest way to find it is to open a file attachment, then start the File...Save As process. Click on the arrow to the right of the folder shown in the resulting dialog, then make careful notes about where Outlook wants to put the file. In my computer, it is C:\Documents and Settings\my Windows log-in name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK229F\
Note that the characters following OLK will vary from one computer to another.

It is worth noting that your start-up folders may be hidden or contain hidden files. Make sure that you enable viewing hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer before you go looking for them. You do this in the Tools...Folder Options...View menu item.

In Excel, you may set a start-up folder in the Tools...Options...General menu item. For most people, this field is left blank. In addition, all files in the XLSTART folder(s) are opened when Excel launches. I have two: C:\Documents and Settings\my Windows log-in name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\ and C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\XLSTART\.

In Word, you may set a start-up folder in the Tools...Options...File Locations menu item. All files in the STARTUP folder(s) are opened when Word launches. I have two: C:\Documents and Settings\my Windows log-in name\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\ and C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP\.

In PowerPoint, you may set the default path in the Tools...Options...Save menu item.
