pst will not import

When importing a pst into outlook 2003 why does the pst I need to import have a n2k file extension and will not allow me to import

The outlook.nk2 file is the nickname file, not a PST file. You cannot convert it to PST file and import it in Outlook.

You are looking in the wrong folder. You are looking in Application Data folder. To find the PST file, you need to look in the Local Settings folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
