Default error 0x80042108 sending messages

Question: I am getting the above error when trying to send messages. The computer is my bosses' brand new machine from Dell. It came pre-loaded with Norton Internet security, Following instructions from Microsquish, I removed Norton and that did not clear the error. I created a new profile and this did clear it, but it has recently come back. To me, this suggests a profile problem. This machine is operating on a branch of a Small Business server 2003 network. This machine has a POP3 and an exchange account on it. the POP3 is the default and the exchange server is not configured to send messages. Exchange is simply being used (right now) to store messages for global access.

I have followed the troubleshooting steps specified in How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express to a T and this does not permenantly resolve the problem.

My bos is beginning to really gnaw on my posterior for this and I desperately need a permenant solution.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Which is the account you would like to configure is it pop3 or mapi that is exchange. if pop3 check the below link and see if you have NIS Norton Internet security uninstall that completely and reinstall. Note NIS comes along with the NPF norton Personal Firewall which will block the inocoming and outgoing mails. hence i would suggest that you please uninstall completly and by following the steps:

Error message when you start Microsoft Outlook: "0x80042108 Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming POP3 e-mail server

Secondly as you said you already have the Exchange server then why dont you configure exchange as an primary account for incoming and outgoing on which you can have many features like global address book, calenders, RPC/Http where as you can access outlook outside the network using the RPC / Http.

If this does not work then login as local admin and configure the outlook and check if outlook works. if it works then rename the profile and login newly and configure the outlook.
