error 1500 Another installation....

"Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install." is a error message i get whentrying to add or remove programs from computer. It is also linked somehow to an "error 1500". Anyone out there understand how I close/ disable or stop the installing program, whis I cannot see or get to show itself. i think it could be word 2003, but the computer will not allow me access, it just gives me the above error message.
