Question Moving User Directories and Data to new 2003 server

I have just added a new server to the domain,
Migrated AD with dcpromo,
made it a GC server.

Now I need to move / copy user and data directories to the new server.

What is the best way to move these directores? explicit instructions please.

Default Re: Moving User Directories and Data to new 2003 server

a) create a new root directory for the home drives...share this similar to the old root home directory on the old server.

1) use robocopy to copy the data to the new server. (I would use the /MIR to synch the data... you can run the command multiple times... to catch file changes that might have happened between the original copy and one at a later date to get delta changes.

2) when the users are off the network...like at night... go into AD users and computers... go to the OU where your users are... use the SHIFT or CTRL key and the mouse to select multiple users at the same time... then right click a user name and choose Properties from the drop down box. go to the Home Folder area and change the path from \\oldservers\homeshare\username to \\newserver\homeshare\%username% and click OK...

3) Test that the user is pointed over to the new server by logging in as the user...

done.
