What is an Event 50 or Delayed Write Error?

What is an Event 50 or Delayed Write Error?
I have been getting these with a service that runs for the most part without problems, however, every so often we see this event show up and the program service effectively fails. Can anyone out there enlighten me as to what this error really means. We have SAN disks involved in this case as well.

if you jump on EventID.Net you can see that there are multiplr possibilities on this one, some claiming its the MFT that needs to be rebuilt
