On this server we will be running Server 2003, SQL 2005, an application called E-Automate, and eventually another app called Compass Opportunity Manager. Both apps use SQL for their database. I have 5 drives in this dell server and would like advice on setting up the raid for fault tolerance. Should I do like 2 drives mirrored for the OS and 3 drives raid 5 for the apps? |

Drive 0 - Mirror Drive 1 - Mirror - These two will host your OS Drive 2 - RAID5 Drive 3 - RAID5 Drive 4 - RAID5 - These three will host your SQL data This gives you a quick os/application recovery if you lose a mirrored drive and decent recovery time for the data side (keep a spare drive on hand if possible). |
