Default 2 questions regarding server 2003 install over trial and unlicensed versions

I have come into a situation where I need to know if anyone has had success over-installing a legal copy of server 2003 standard over a 180 day trial version and also a pirated version. I want to legalize trial copies and or pirated copies with purchased versions of the aforementioned. If this does work, are the domain settings preserved? Details would be appreciated.

This is a tough one, but here's an article that might be helpful:

Windows 2003 Server evaluation copy expiration behavior

Actually I always recommend calling MSFT just in case. I got into a whole **load of grief one time by trying to upgrade a Windows 2000 Enterprise edition server (which wasn't properly licensed - should've been Standard edition) to Windows 2003 Standard edition. Ended up having to completely wipe the server clean and start over....15 hours later.....Well, you get the point. Even if you have to pay Msft tech support $245 for the answer, sometimes it's worth it!
