to evaluate the operating system. I am now using it constantly and would like to move it to my main harddrive and replace the XP partition with it and change the drive letter to c:. Is this possible or would you recommend a clean install?

This is going to be very problematic. It can just about be done with XP, but even that is tricky and not without risk. With Vista there is the added complexity of the new boot loader. On the face of It I think a clean install is going to be a lot less trouble.
