Default Vista Ultimate 64-bit SYSTEM & svchost processes peg CPU at 100% utilization

Question: I loaded Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a P4 3.4GHz HT w/2GB RAM. The "system" process and one of the svchost processes continually peg the CPU at or near 100% utilization. The svchost process also uses ~100MB of RAM (which may be normal). Here is the svchost process in question: svchost.exe; PID:560; Services: AudioEndpointBuilder, CscService, EMDMgmt, hidserv, Netman, PcaSvc, SysMain, TabletInputService, TrkWks, UmRdpService, UxSms, WdiSystemHost, WPDBusEnum. How can I troubleshoot and stop/reduce this high cpu utilization? The system is quite unresponsive with these two processes pegging the CPU, and, uh, probably isn't too good for my electric bill either.

Did you use the second link to see if any of these services could be disabled because you don't need them? Then restart and see if the problem goes away? To disable a service, type SERVICES.MSC in the Run dialog box off the Start Menu (you do have that, don't you; it isn't there by default, but I find it so useful that I used the Start Menu properties page to put it there), scroll down to a service you want to disable, double click it in the list, and on the General tab use the list box to change the Startup Type to disabled...
