Default GPO HowTo's and info

A few quick comments/answers/links would be appreciated.
I'm starting into GPO and have a 'rudimentary' grasp at best. I've my templates installed, will use GPMC for configuring, and want to try setting up some GPO's.
Can I and How do I create an OU, add couple of computers to it, and apply say
WSUS template to create a GPO for the OU. Templates have me totally confused.
Are they used to create GPO's or at they a set of 'links' to expose associated settings to that template. Do you then 'copy' the template to start a gpo.

I think you get the idea....Tks for guidence....[125pts] for a quick, short answer,
full answer with a link to a good gpo howto site.

You create an OU in ADUC (Active Directory Users and Computers) by right clicking your domain and choosing New > Organisational Unit. Call it something like "Systems". Inside of that OU, right click inside the right hand pane and do the same- but this time choose to add a new computer object. Better still, join a spare PC if you have one to your new domain and you'll see the machine object apepar inside of the Computers container. Drag it to your new OU.

Once all that is done, apply your GPO.

In particular, the community forum on gpanswers is really helpful for GPO advice
