Question: When I try to install Windows Vista on my newly built computer, it hangs a bunch. The initial load from DVD goes fine, but it takes quite some time before the first prompt comes up. Following that first prompt, it takes yet another astounding amount of time before anything else comes up after it. Finally, when it does the first reboot, when it starts to load from the hard drive, it just hangs.
Now, the only unusual thing about this computer is that I have SATA everything. Nothing is hooked up IDE. Initially I thought that may be the issue, cause perhaps it keeps looking around for IDE drives and not finding them, but I broke down, disconnected my SATA DVD drive and hooked up my IDE DVD drive, and it still hangs like it used to, although now the HD light doesn't flash at a steady blinking pace like it used to. Formerly even when doing nothing the HD light would blink every second or so.
It acts as if it is waiting for a response from something and not getting it. Finally it times out and lets you proceed, but this takes quite a while.
Suggestions? I started to install Media Center Edition, but it does the same basic thing, only not as severe. (It doesn't start to act odd until after the first reboot, then it slows down for some reason)
