VISTA ---- Two young men were arrested Thursday on suspicion of burglarizing a Marine's apartment while he was away for several days, authorities said.
The Marine called deputies just before 8 a.m. after he found that his apartment on the 1500 block of South Melrose Drive in Vista was almost entirely cleared of his belongings, including clothing, food and electronics, sheriff's Sgt. Mark Varnau said.
Apartment managers stopped a 17-year-old boy who was seen leaving a vacant, unrented apartment, who then confessed to breaking in, Varnau said. Deputies subsequently found the vacant apartment full of stolen goods, as well as the second suspect, 20-year-old Vista resident Daniel Angel Correa, he said.
"He was actually wearing the victim's clothing at the time he was arrested," Varnau said.
Both suspects claimed to be staying with friends, who are also Marines, in a third apartment in the complex, Varnau said. The friends were "very cooperative" and didn't appear to be involved in the burglary, he said.
All of the stolen goods except for a laptop computer and some military clothing were recovered, Varnau said.
Correa was arrested on one charge of receiving stolen property and booked into Vista jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
