File/Open Access MDB Works but double clicking does nothing

I have a customer who is receiving a strange error.
He can open Access, select File/Open Database and open an mdb file. This works fine.
If he tries to open the same mdb file by double clicking on it, it does nothing ... just doens't open.

I spent a few hours searching the ee database. I found one other user who posted a similiar problem in 2004, but the solution was to delete an erroneous directory which is not applicable to this case.

The Laptop is a brand new Lenovo with XP Professional, fully service packed and updated. I seem to remember a registry tweak for a similiar problem in Excel, but can't find where I posted the answer.

All other workstations with identical os, software and configs function without problems.
