Uninstall Vista - Reinstall XP

I purchased a new laptop that came with Vista. I already experienced way too many problems (driver compatibility and software blocks), so I'm very frustrated with the new OS.

I want to remove Vista and install XP on this machine now. (Please, don't try to convince me otherwise).

When I try to execute the XP installation disk, Vista indicates that a newer OS version is installed and the operation is blocked.

How do I go about of removing Vista and install XP?

If you want to leave no trace of vista or anything that is currently on the computer, choose

Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)
or
Format the partition using the NTFS file system

if you want to leave the files that are currently on it, choose:
Leave the current file system intact (no changes)

The last option will leave you with a slightly messy hard disk, so if there's nothing you need, I would go with NTFS or NTFS (Quick) NTFS will take significantly longer than quick, but either should work.
