Default Adobe updates PostScript driver for Vista

Adobe plans to release an updated printer driver for their PostScript language in July. This comes half a year after Vista released. The default driver on computers running Vista can’t print advanced effects like transparencies and gradients when dealing with PostScript documents. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Adobe has been thrown into the frying pan over Vista. Adobe has already said that older products would not be retroactively updated for full Vista support. Products earlier than PhotoShop 7 have trouble running on Vista, PhotoShop 7 and up right up to CS2 will occasionally crash. There is little consolation in the fact that CS3 is fully Vista compatible.
I can’t say that I have ever noticed this problem, it seems to bother the professionals more than anyone else and why not. Your document may not print with all those fancy gradients and transparencies, a true travesty. Be thankful it works AT ALL in Vista.
Don’t be holding your breath for the update though, it won’t be released until July and we’re probably looking at later July rather than earlier. Microsoft has begun to tread into Adobe territory by offering up their Siverlight platform which some think will be the death knell of Flash player. Flash player is not going anywhere any time soon.
However, the new driver isn’t just something you will be able to download for Adobe; it will ship to printer manufacturers who will then make it available for download.
When asked about the lackluster support for Vista, Adobe did not comment to InformationWeek about that issue
