Default Vista and Virus 2.0 Challenge China's Network Security Product Market

BEIJING, May 16 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- CCID Consulting, China's leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong, recently released the latest analysis report titled ''The Analysis Report on China's Network Security Market in 2007Q1'', which showed that the market reached a size of 1.104 billion RMB in 2007Q1, up by 21.1% year-on-year, demonstrating a clear growth momentum.

Central enterprises aim to grow bigger and more competitive, with information security on their agendas.

The State Council Information Office and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission jointly issued to 159 central enterprises a document entitled ''The Guiding Opinions on the Strengthening of IT Application Work in Central Enterprises''. It required central enterprises to basically change their IT applications to enterprise-wide integration, sharing and synergy and build unified and integrated information systems of their groups by 2010. Currently, central enterprises still have a rather big gap to bridge in their information system infrastructure in order to stay strong and competitive, especially for those with an eye on the international market. There are still problems in overall enterprise management information systems building and information system security. There is also lack of high- level talent. The most notable difference between the ''Opinions'' and the existing guiding IT application principles for central enterprises is that there is a clear requirement for setting up the position of CIO in enterprises with the right conditions. It is specifically pointed out in the ''Opinions'' that emphasis should be placed on strengthening the security assessment of basic information networks and important information systems.

The Virus 2.0 era has arrived.

In 2007Q1, the viruses, Nimaya and Golden-Pig-Reporting-Good-News and the more recent Gray Pigeon lead to public concern on network security issues. These new viruses showed features different from those in the past: communication through inter-personal relations and word-of-mouth. These are very similar to the features of Web2.0. From the technical side, Nimaya and Golden-Pig-Reporting-Good-News both contain no high technical elements. However, their unique way of communication and the complicated gray economic industry chain have caused tremendous destruction and attracted wide attention from the whole society.

The official introduction of Vista gave rise to new application hotspots.

On January 30, Microsoft's heavyweight product Vista Personal Edition was officially released worldwide. The product took 5 years to develop, consumed 6 billion USD and represented the R&D work of 6,000 software engineers. Currently, the whole IT circles are joining hands with Microsoft to provide Vista System-based technical support for millions of existing hardware, software and peripherals. Meanwhile, they are also developing new hardware, software and services according to Vista's latest features. Compatibility with the Microsoft Platform is the key to the survival of security vendors. Whenever Microsoft introduces a new operating system platform, security vendors, content security vendors in particular, will introduce new anti-virus software products. Different from foreign vendors, domestic security vendors cannot get bottom layer code support form Microsoft. This implies that domestic vendors need to make greater efforts to achieve the perfect combination with Vista.
