I have tried everything I know over the past 4 days and I cannot get Vista to run normally. I did a clean install from within Windows XP. Vista came up and worked well for about 15 minutes. I was running Microsoft Update and I had installed McAfee AV. Ever since then my computer has been crawling... I mean snail's pace slow. I have installed every driver I can (takes about an hour and a half to get online, download the driver and install at the speed Vista is running). I disabled my RAID within Windows since it isn't compatible but couldn't find a place in BIOS to disable it. The only other thing that is flagged in the Device Manager is an Unknown Device, which I also disabled hoping it would speed things up. I have tried closing down the sidebar and all McAfee processes, neither of these worked. I installed and ran the Microsoft Vista test and it said everything was cool for me to upgrade. I have even re-installed Vista and it didn't do anything for me. Keep in mind, the only thing I have installed at this point is Firefox, I don't even have Office on here yet. The Task Manager shows 100% CPU usage even if it's just idling and RAM is around 33% usage. I don't think it's indexing. I know my hardware is out of date but I am going in baby steps here. Let me know if I forgot to list something. Any help is soooo much appreciated.

Oh yea I also have a Z-Board keyboard running but MS Update found the driver for that OK as well.

Some things:

1) What version of McAfee are you running? McAfee 8.0 and below are incompatible with Vista. McAfee 8.5 is the version you want.

2) We have deployed some Vista machines and have not experienced any dramatic issues or rollbacks that our IT team has not been able to resolve. It works great, just some compatibility/hardware issues with current software and hardware that will be resolved in due time.

3) You mentioned that you did a upgrade install from within XP. Is there any way you could try a completely fresh install from DOS?

4) I have been unsuccessful on making Vista run on my home machine, which is also an older Gigabyte motherboard like yours.

5) Try unplugging your 20gb drive.
