Default Cannot Log Into Live Messenger

This is now driving me insane, I cannot connect with Live Messenger, I am using 32 bit Vista.

Ok, so let me explain, messenger was working completely fine until I installed a Linksys WAG200G router, now I cannot login to messenger, however when I open messenger and goto Tools then Options, I select Connection and Advanced Settings, and for TCP I click on Test, I get this result :-

Resolving the server name...
Connecting to the server...
Connected, verifying ability to send data now...
Success, you can connected to the Windows Live Messenger service.

However when I try signing in I receive :

Error Code : 81000306

Ok, so you would probably put it down to the router, now heres the crazy part, my upstairs computer running XP and connects by wireless can sign me into Messenger with no problems at all. So, where does the problem lie, I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot this and getting nowhere.

Apparently this is something to do with autotuninglevel. Instructions on this fix are at the following address

Microsoft Talk » Blog Archive » Windows Live Messenger Error 81000306 on Vista

If the link goes dead this was copied from the site

- Click start
- Type: cmd (but don’t hit Enter)
- Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications
- Click Run As Administrator
- Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
- Press enter
