Marking the most significant product launch in IT giant Microsoft's history, Microsoft Qatar announced yesterday the business availability of the Windows Vista operating system, the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Exchange Server 2007.
“Designed to enable businesses to thrive in a world of instant communication, expanding information and constant change, the new products provide a platform that will transform the way people turn information into opportunity and growth,” Microsoft officials said.
The announcement that Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office release are available to volume licensing customers marks the beginning of the most significant product launch in company history.
“This is the first simultaneous release of Microsoft's flagship products since the joint launch of Windows 95 and Office 95 more than a decade ago,” Microsoft Qatar's corporate account manager Ziad Rizk and Microsoft Gulf FZ's product manager Sabah Corm and Windows Client Business Group Lead Adriana Rangel explained.
If Exchange Server 2007 is now ready for release to organisations with volume licence agreements, Windows Vista and the 2007 Office system will be released to consumers and organisations without volume license agreements on January 30.
The new products are the result of an unprecedented collaboration between Microsoft and its customers. Real-life scenarios guided product development through feedback from customers who volunteered to Microsoft watch them work in more than 1bn user sessions.
“During testing, customers from around the world downloaded more than 5mn beta versions of the three products and provided valuable feedback and suggestions,” the officials observed.
The Windows Vista, the 2007 Office system and Exchange Server have been tested more thoroughly than any other software products in history, according to them.
“The Windows Vista is not an upgrade of an older version of Windows,” said Corm while stating that it has been re-engineered from scratch.
It is described that the new operating system delivers value for business customers by helping to reduce IT complexity and cost, through enhancements to security, application compatibility and deployment.
The Windows Vista provides increased return on networking investments, reduction in deployment and support costs, easier desktop management, compatibility, streamlined user experience, apart from being easy to organise, find data, navigate and search data online.
The 2007 Microsoft Office system, which marks the most significant advancements to Microsoft Office in more than a decade, offers remarkable new capabilities to help increase personal productivity, simplify how people work together, make processes and content management more efficient, and improve the quality of business insight across organisations.
Specific new and enhanced features include results oriented user interface, capabilities for Really Simple Syndication and SMS, SmartArt Graphics, data visualisation tools in Office Excel 2007, Blog This, and document inspector.
The Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 offers built-in protective technologies to keep businesses moving, reduce spam and viruses, improve confidential communications, and help companies meet regulatory guidelines. These features include safe sender aggregation, mail flow rules and cross-organisational mailbox search. Other services offered as part of the Exchange Server Enterprise Client Access License include Forefront for Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Hosted Filtering.
