Better Security Through Vista
Securing Windows-based systems has been an ongoing challenge for IT and for some it may feel like a full-time job patching and downloading bug fixes. With Windows Vista on the horizon, Microsoft hopefully has remedied many of its security problems by engineering security in from the start.
We all live for "Super Tuesday," the second Tuesday of each month where Microsoft releases all of its major security and bug fixes for Windows and Office. And if you're running mission critical applications you then have to go through the process of testing the fixes to make sure they don't break your application or weigh off the security risk highlighted by the update against the time and effort involved in rolling it out to potentially hundreds or thousands of clients. Every Tuesday you mutter to yourself, "will Microsoft ever get it right?" Well with Windows Vista, they think they have.
