Vista Ultimate - Extremely slow network file transfer speed to NAS

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, with all the latest updates on a Gigabyte GA965P-DS4 board (latest Bios) with a Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor and 3GB DDR2 Ram. I'm using a Netgear Rangemax DG834PN ADSL Router into which is plugged the Vista PC, an old XP PC and a Western Digital My Book World Edition 2 1TB NAS drive.

I have disabled my Vista Firewall and have no antivirus or other firewall software installed.

Problem is that when I transfer files between the Vista PC and the NAS I am getting transfer speeds of around 50Kbp/s meaning it is estimating around 3 days to transfer a 3.7GB file. Now I know this NAS is slow but not that slow! Transfer speed from the XP PC to the NAS is perfectly good.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Make sure that you have installed the latest updates. There is an update to improve network transfer speeds. esp. The copy process may stop responding when you try to copy files from a server on a network to a Windows Vista-based computer
