I was wondering how nicely this would work out for an engineering student running CAD, solidworks, musics, internet, etc...

1. I'd also go to 2 HDDs. 1 to use for backups, images etc. 2 x 250GB, if you're budget's tight, instead of 1 x 500.
2. If you buy Vista Ultimate, it has bothe the 32 and 64-bit versions on the on DVD.
3. If you can get MS Works SUITE for not much more than plain old Works, it includes MS Word.
4. If it's a pre-built machine, make sure that you're getting a Vista DVD. Even if you have to pay a bit more for it.
