Windows Vista operating systems will require that the product must be activated during the first 30 days of operation, or the product will automatically reduce functionality until activation takes place. Well it seems that a second crack is appearing that maintains Vista in a constant 30-day state, thus circumventing the activation process.
This morning I read a post in one of the newsgroups I belong to in which the poster has stated that the crack does, in fact, exist and does currently work. However, it was also cautioned that some Web sites posting the ‘crack’ may also be sending a virus along with the workaround. So it’s “pirate, beware!”
After reading about this, two thoughts came to mind:
- Did anyone really believe that Microsoft was going to have an operating system that couldn’t be cracked?
- Did anyone really believe that Vista was going to be more secure than previous Window versions?
I think that we will still have to take precautions just as we have done in the past to protect ourselves from those who have nothing better to do with their lives than to attack Windows.
I know this is going to sound callous, but for those deciding not to upgrade to Vista, there may be less attacks heading our way while the bad guys concentrate on Vista. Just a thought! :-)
