Symantec is now ready for Windows Vista launch
Security applications maker Symantec has said that users of Norton Internet Security 2006 and 2007, Norton AntiVirus 2006 and 2007, and Norton Confidential products would be able to upgrade to Vista compatible versions for free.
Microsoft is due to launch the Vista OS for retail customers later this month. They have already launched it for their corporate clients. Symantec aims to make available their updates just around the time of the launch.
Symantec further said that they are adding a new behavior-analysis feature to NIS and NAV called Sonar. They gained this technology after acquiring WholeSecurity, Inc.
Sonar would let the applications look for malware based on its behavior rather than a signature match. Ed Kim, director of product management in Symantec’s consumer product group spoke on Sonar: “It’s a new behavioral technology. It’s a zero-day defense that doesn’t use signatures.”
