How to upgrade to Windows XP Professional from Windows XP Media Center 2002

Question: I have a client that brought in his laptop from home and wants to use it as his "work" laptop. The problem is that his laptop has Windows XP Media Center 2002 installed on it which does not allow me to join it to the domain. What are my options? Can the system be upgraded to XP Pro or do I have to wipe it out and start from scratch?

That is not a supported upgrade path.

Fdisk, format, reinstall (man I love saying that)

The good news is that your drivers CD should be compliant (I had to do this with a Dell XPS recently)

There are apparently ways to convince MCE to join a domain, but I would wager that none of them are EULA compliant
